History of LeaderSpark

The initial curriculum and program (originally called "LEADER Institute") was developed in 1987 through the sponsorship of the Educational Council and the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Columbus. Utilizing various community resources, representatives from each organization worked together to develop a 20-hour sequenced, skills-based curriculum for high school students in the greater Columbus area.

In 1999, LEADER Institute, Inc. was formed as an independent national non-profit organization, with a separate Board of Trustees. In 2004, LEADER Institute, Inc. changed its name to LeaderSpark, Inc. - Igniting organizations to build young leaders.

LeaderSpark continues to provide and customize the 20-hour sequenced skill-based curriculum and supplemental materials, facilitator training, and consultation and evaluation support for local, regional, and national organizations.
